PU LF: thin-film PU floor coating

A thin-film (Low Film) polyurethane floor coating that is flexible, bridges small cracks well and resists chemicals and UV. Suited to protective coating of concrete and light- to medium-duty areas.

  • Thin film, lower cost
  • Flexible, bridges small cracks
  • Chemical resistant + UV resistant
  • Fast to install, quick to reopen

What is PU LF?

PU LF (Low Film) is a thin-film polyurethane floor coating system that protects concrete from wear, dust and chemicals. It is thinner than a Self-Leveling system, so it is cost-effective and quick to install.

It suits areas that need a smooth, low-maintenance, dustproof floor with light- to medium-duty chemical resistance, such as warehouses, storage areas and walkways inside plants.

Key properties

Highly flexible

The flexible PU film bridges fine hairline cracks and accommodates expansion of the floor.

UV resistant, helps slow yellowing

Suited to areas in direct sunlight; durable colour that helps slow yellowing

Dustproof, easy to clean

A smooth surface that seals the pores and reduces dusting from the concrete.

Economical, quick to install

A thin film uses less material, keeps costs low and lets you reopen the area quickly.

PU LF system build-up, layer by layer

Even as a thin-film system, the durability of PU LF still depends on applying every layer, not on thickness alone.

Primer

A low-viscosity primer soaks into the pores of the concrete, improving adhesion and helping keep the film from peeling.

PU coating layer (1–2 coats)

Thin-film polyurethane is applied to the specified thickness, sealing the concrete to a smooth surface and reducing dust.

Top coat

Adds abrasion and UV resistance, with a matte or gloss finish to suit the use.

Edge and joint finishing

Wall edges, slab joints and the areas around columns are finished so the film runs continuously, without breaks.

The DMH installation process

The quality of a floor coating job comes down mainly to surface preparation, not the brand of material.

01 Inspect the floor and measure moisture

Check the strength of the concrete floor and measure moisture, which must not exceed 4% before work starts.

02 Profile the concrete surface

Grind the floor with a diamond grinder or shot blast it to open the surface and improve adhesion.

03 Repair cracks and level the floor

Fill cracks and voids with high-grade repair material and level any low spots.

04 Apply the primer

Prime the whole area and allow the specified drying time before the next layer.

05 Apply the PU coating

Apply the specified number of coats, allowing drying time between coats so the layers bond fully.

06 Cure, then inspect and hand over

Let the system cure fully before opening the area, then carry out the handover inspection with care instructions.

Suitable applications

  • Warehouses, stockrooms and storage areas
  • Walkways/material transport routes inside plants
  • Light- to medium-duty areas
  • Protective coating for existing concrete

What to know and how to maintain it

PU LF gives good value when it is matched to the right kind of work, and the right care can extend the film's life by several more years.

Suited to light- to medium-duty use

If the area has constant forklift traffic or high impact, consider a thicker system such as PU HF instead.

Floor moisture is the key factor

Moisture above the limit will make the film blister and peel, so measure it and fix the cause before the system goes down.

Thin film wears faster in heavy-use spots

Main walkways and trolley routes wear first, so plan recoating on a cycle that matches the use.

Can be wet-cleaned

Mops and wet floor scrubbers can be used as normal. Avoid wire brushes and sharp objects.

Take care with strong chemicals

It handles light- to medium-duty chemical exposure. If strong chemicals are used, tell our team so we can choose a system that fits.

It can be recoated when due

When the film starts to wear thin, it can be lightly sanded and recoated without removing the existing coating.

Q&A

Frequently asked questions

How is PU LF different from PU MF?
PU LF is a thin film focused on protecting the surface, with low cost and fast installation, suited to light- to medium-duty use. PU MF is a 3–5 mm self-leveling system that takes heavier use and has higher chemical resistance.
What kind of areas is it suited to?
It suits warehouses, walkways and areas that need a smooth, dustproof floor on a modest budget, where heavy impact is not the main concern.
How soon can it be used?
Because it is a thin film, it dries and can be opened sooner than thick systems. Light use is typically possible within 1–2 days.
