What is Epoxy Self-Leveling?
Epoxy Self-Leveling is a self-leveling epoxy floor coating system. When the coating is poured onto the floor, the epoxy flows and levels itself smoothly, giving a surface that is smooth, glossy and seamless, with an even thickness across the whole floor.
Unlike roller-applied Epoxy Coating, which is only 0.1–0.5 mm thick, a Self-Leveling system is poured and spread to a thickness of 1–5 mm, giving a smoother, more durable surface that looks far more upscale.
This system is very popular in areas with demanding requirements, such as food production plants, hospitals, labs and luxury showrooms, because it gives a clean, non-porous surface that is very easy to clean.
How does Epoxy Self-Leveling differ from roller-applied Epoxy Coating?
Each system has advantages in different situations. This table will help you choose the right one:
| Item | Self-Leveling (poured) | Coating (roller-applied) |
|---|---|---|
| Installation method | Poured and spread | Roller-applied |
| Thickness | 1–5 mm | 0.1–0.5 mm |
| Surface smoothness | Very smooth, high gloss | Moderate |
| Durability | Very high | Good |
| Price | Higher ฿฿฿ | More economical ฿฿ |
| GMP/HACCP suitability | Very well suited | Partly suited |
| Suitable for | Food plants, hospitals, showrooms | General factories, warehouses, car parks |
Rule of thumb: for a very smooth, glossy, hygienic floor suited to GMP/HACCP facilities → Self-Leveling | for a tighter budget and fast installation → roller-applied Epoxy Coating
Smooth, even, seamless Epoxy Self-Leveling surface
Key properties of Epoxy Self-Leveling
Smooth and seamless
A continuous surface with no joints or pores leaves dust, bacteria and dirt few places to collect, which suits areas that need a high level of cleanliness and hygiene.
High chemical and impact resistance
At 1–5 mm thick, it resists industrial chemicals, acids, alkalis, oils and impact much better than a roller-applied coating, which suits plants with frequent chemical exposure.
Resists water seepage, easy to clean
The dense, non-porous surface keeps water, oil and dirt from soaking into the floor, so they can be wiped or hosed off right away, saving a lot of cleaning time.
Attractive, with plenty of customization options
Choose solid opaque colors, semi-gloss or high-gloss finishes, or a clear finish that shows off the terrazzo or concrete underneath, for a distinctly upscale look.
Suited to GMP/HACCP facilities
The non-porous, seamless surface suits the hygiene requirements of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and HACCP for food and pharmaceutical plants.
Thickness set to your needs
Choose a thickness from 1 mm for light duty up to 5 mm for very heavy use. A thicker floor gives greater durability and a longer service life.
Choosing the right Epoxy Self-Leveling thickness
The thickness of an Epoxy Self-Leveling floor directly affects its durability and cost, so choose it to match how the floor will actually be used:
| Thickness | Applications | Example areas |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 mm | Light to medium duty, foot traffic | Offices, showrooms, shops |
| 2–3 mm | Medium duty, trolleys, light forklifts | Warehouses, production rooms, food plants |
| 3–5 mm | Heavy duty, large forklifts | Industrial plants, car parks |
| 5 mm+ | Extra-heavy duty, high chemical resistance | Labs, chemical rooms, pharmaceutical plants |
Tip: for food plants that must meet GMP, we recommend a minimum thickness of 2–3 mm so the surface is dense enough to stand up to high-pressure steam cleaning and strong disinfectants over the long term.

Areas suited to Epoxy Self-Leveling
Food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants
A non-porous, seamless Self-Leveling floor suits GMP/HACCP requirements, withstands strong cleaning agents and disinfectants, and helps prevent the build-up of mold or bacteria that could contaminate products. Suited to plants that must pass Thai FDA inspections or audits following international guidelines.
Hospitals and healthcare facilities
The smooth, seamless surface can be disinfected thoroughly and withstands hospital disinfectants and cleaning agents. It resists absorbing stains and odors, which suits operating rooms, ICU patient rooms and other areas that need strict sanitation.
Labs, cleanrooms and cold rooms
Cleanrooms need floors that shed as few particles as possible, and a completely smooth, dense Self-Leveling floor meets this need well. For cold rooms, special formulations are available that withstand low temperatures and rapid temperature changes.
High-spec car parks and parking areas
A 3–5 mm Self-Leveling floor stands up well to cars and trucks, has an attractive glossy finish, and makes oil and tire marks easy to clean. Suited to car parks at hotels, shopping malls and high-end condominiums.
High-end showrooms, shops and offices
The glossy surface of Self-Leveling gives a luxurious, modern look, and it reflects light to make the space feel larger. Colors can be matched to your brand theme, which suits car showrooms, boutiques and upscale offices.
Epoxy Self-Leveling system build-up, layer by layer
A Self-Leveling system built to specification is made up of layers that work together. Every layer matters, and none can be skipped:
Epoxy Primer — deep-penetrating base coat
Very low viscosity, so it penetrates deep into the pores of the concrete for strong adhesion and seals the pores before the Self-Leveling layer is poured, helping to prevent air bubbles that would leave pits and spoil the look of the floor.
Epoxy Self-Leveling Body — the poured main layer
Epoxy parts A+B are mixed at a precise ratio, poured onto the floor and spread with a leveling trowel, and the material then flows and levels itself. The thickness of this layer is set to your requirements (1–5 mm).
Anti-Slip Treatment — added slip resistance (optional)
Quartz sand or EPDM granules are broadcast onto the surface while it is still wet to increase friction, especially in areas that are often wet, such as washing areas, cold rooms and factory walkways.
Epoxy Top Coat — final surface coat
The final coat strengthens the surface, resists scratches and chemicals, and adds a high gloss. Choose the gloss level you need. Allow 24–48 hours of curing before foot traffic.
Epoxy Self-Leveling installation steps
Pouring Self-Leveling takes a high level of skill, because the material sets quickly and cannot be corrected once poured. The DMH Groups team works through these steps:
- Inspect and prepare the surfaceMeasure the moisture in the concrete (it must not exceed 4%), grind the floor with a diamond grinder or shot-blast it to open up the concrete surface, then repair cracks and level areas with large height differences.
- Apply 1–2 coats of Epoxy PrimerApply the primer evenly over the whole area and allow 4–8 hours to dry. Highly absorbent floors may need 2 coats. This step determines how well the Self-Leveling layer will bond.
- Mix and pour the Self-Leveling layerMix epoxy parts A+B with a low-speed mixer at the exact specified ratio, pour onto the floor and spread with a trowel. The material levels itself within 10–20 minutes, so the work must be fast and continuous.
- Remove air bubbles with a spike rollerRun a spike roller over the surface while it is still wet to release air trapped beneath it, helping to prevent pits or bumps once it dries. This step is critical to a high-quality finish.
- Apply the top coat and inspect the workLet the body coat dry for 12–24 hours before applying the top coat. Allow 24–48 hours of curing before foot traffic and 7 days before heavy use. The work is quality-checked and handed over with warranty documents.
