PU HF: heavy-duty PU flooring
Extra-thick (High Film/High Build) polyurethane flooring that takes impact and heavy traffic, with high abrasion and chemical resistance. Suited to heavy industry, forklift routes and areas under constant impact.
- Handles high impact/loads
- High abrasion resistance
- Resists strong chemicals
- Long service life
What is PU HF?
PU HF (High Film) is an extra-thick polyurethane floor system designed specifically for heavy use: impact, forklift traffic and constant abrasion.
With its film thickness and toughness, PU HF is more durable than standard systems. It suits heavy industrial plants, warehouses with constant forklift traffic and production areas that demand high durability.
Key properties
High load capacity
The extra-thick film handles loads and impact from machinery/forklifts well.
Abrasion resistant
A hard-wearing surface that resists abrasion and repeated forklift wheel traffic without wearing quickly.
Resists strong chemicals
Handles the chemicals used in heavy industrial processes well.
Long-term value
Long service life and less frequent maintenance.
PU HF system build-up, layer by layer
A heavy-duty system relies on film thickness and good adhesion working together. If either is lacking, the floor will delaminate early.
Primer
A deep-penetrating primer anchors the thick layers above to the concrete. This layer determines the life of the whole system.
Extra-thick PU main layer
High Build polyurethane is applied to the specified thickness so it can take impact and forklift wheels.
Abrasion-resistant wear coat
Increases surface hardness to withstand abrasion from forklift wheels and repeated dragging of heavy items.
Joint and edge finishing (Cove Base)
Wall edges and structural joints are finished continuously, reducing the points where cracks can start.
The DMH installation process
High-load floors need especially thorough preparation, because impact always finds the weakest point of adhesion.
01 Inspect the floor and measure moisture
Check the concrete's strength and measure moisture, which must not exceed 4% before work starts.
02 Profile the concrete surface
Grind with a diamond grinder or shot blast to get a surface rough enough to anchor a thick film.
03 Repair cracks and level the floor
Fill cracks and voids, and level any low spots before the system goes down.
04 Apply the primer
Prime every square meter, especially where the concrete is highly absorbent.
05 Apply the extra-thick PU layer
Apply the material to the specified thickness, controlling flatness and allowing drying time between layers per the spec.
06 Allow a full cure, then open to traffic
Keep forklifts off until the system has fully cured. Running them too early is a common cause of indentations and delamination.
Suitable applications
- Heavy industrial plants
- Warehouses with constant forklift traffic
- Areas under heavy impact/loads
- Chemical plants and areas in continuous heavy use
What to know and how to maintain it
PU HF is designed specifically for heavy-duty work, but there are still conditions to plan for and care practices that help you get full value from it.
Costs more than thin-film systems
In return, you get a longer service life and much less frequent maintenance.
Needs a full cure period
The area must be out of use while it cures, so plan production line shutdowns in advance.
Floor moisture is the key factor
Excess moisture will push the thick film up into blisters, so always fix the cause before the system goes down.
Inspect high-load points regularly
Forklift routes and turning corners wear before other areas, so inspect them and spot-repair early.
Can be cleaned with scrubbing machines
Handles routine washing and machine scrubbing. Avoid dragging sharp objects across the surface.
It can be spot-repaired
If the surface is damaged in patches, those areas can be ground back and recoated locally.
